Are you renovating or planning to demolish a building? Did you know that before you do any work you are required to identify if any of the existing building materials contain Designated Substances or are Hazardous?
Older buildings, generally pre-1970’s were often constructed utilizing materials and products that are now known to impact human health. During renovations and demolition these materials can have small particles released into the environment whereupon workers or residents may be directly exposed to the hazard. As per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ontario Regulation 490/09 a DSHM survey is required.
What will the survey do?
The survey will confirm and quantify suspected hazardous materials including Lead Based Paints and Asbestos Containing Materials and provide observations and assessment of additional substances such as mould, mercury, silica and polychlorinated biphenyls. The report will provide recommendations for appropriate abatement and removal, if required.
NSSL prides itself on maintaining close working relationships with other Niagara Region based companies including Abatement Contractors and as such, can act as a liaison for our clients and their next steps if suspected materials are confirmed.
